Summary

In "December 18, 2008," on the day her child was born, the baby was new and empty of identity. They did not have a self, or know "that a self was something / one could be" (44). For a moment of time, the baby was inexperienced. The baby hit its face with its hands. The speaker tells them this same confusion over the body lasts forever.

In "Small Blue Town," the speaker builds "a small blue town" inside herself (46). All of the buildings are blue. The speaker has never lived in this town, yet it resides within her. Every part of the town is "in shade" (46). The sun does not come here.
