Cin lives in Skagway, Alaska as the novel opens. She has broken from her pack and is managing a bookstore owned by a vampire. She lives in an apartment next to the bookstore along with two roommates. After Cin's brother finds her, she has to leave this home. She has lived in Skagway for 10 years by that point; so, it is a difficult move for her. She describes the bookstore as being a comfortable place that includes coffee, snacks, and seating for the patrons.
