Chapters 36 - 40 Summary
Manfred has timed his trip to Paris to ensure that he has two full days to gamble before the conference begins. He goes down to play after a short rest, and typical of his usual behavior, he loses big, after betting against odds that are stacked against him and impossible to beat. When he arrives at his hotel, Andrew waits to tell him that he will be summoned in the morning.
Johnny and Hettie join the rest of the gang at the Lord Kitchener Hotel on Saturday night to drink and dance.
