Chapters 11 - 15 Summary

Hurry Hirschfeld is one of the richest and most influential men in Africa and has his office in the Reef House next to the Schlesinger Building looking down on Johannesburg. He waits for Manfred Steyner to arrive and hates the environment designed by Manfred. The offices still remind him more of a brothel than an office, having come from fifty-five years in an office that lacked even a carpet. Manfred arrives, calling him Grandfather which is something Hurry hates as well. Hurry adjusts the air conditioning until it is humid enough to grow orchids, knowing it is one of the few things that irritates Manfred who has to excuse himself to wash before very little time passes.
