Summary

In Chapter 25, Birth Day arrives. They take Lacey to a field next to the Diviners, but the is now longer there, only a charred skeleton remains. Lacey fears Daisy and Florin are dead. The congregation surrounds a tarp, where the pregnant girls are told to lie to give birth as the congregation watches. Vern passes around an elixir to induce birth. Lacey refuses but Lyle forces the drink to her mouth. It is wine. Lacey feels her body want to give birth but tries to restrain it. Vern shoots bullets from his machine gun into the sky.

Hours pass, and the girls become sick from the wine, vomiting everywhere. Night falls. Lyle continues to feed it to the girls, but spares Lacey after she agrees to tell people it is his seed. The congregation grows increasingly restless, and Vern shoots his gun into the...
