Summary

In Chapter 13, Lacey finds Taffy waiting for her on Cherry’s porch. Taffy asks Lacey if she has been blessed. Taffy has not and she cries.

Lacey begins working daily. Wildfires occur near Peaches as drought worsens.

On shift, Forne calls. He asks about her, instead of roleplaying. Lacey resists being genuine but ultimately yields and tells him she is searching for Louise. He then begins moaning for the roleplay and tells her he wants to pick her up. Lacey angrily hangs up, feeling that she repeated Louise’s mistake.

Lacey threatens to quit but then takes another call. She recognizes the voice as Rick Walden. She flirts with him, and tries to ask for his address to visit him, but he says he picks up his women. He offers her a new life with of glamour.

She hangs up and goes to tell...
