Forgiveness
Casiopea and Hun-Kamé’s journey shows the importance and power of forgiveness. While bitterness and vengeance may be easier, ending the cycle of hate between people is much more rewarding. However, it takes courage and humility to understand this for oneself.
First, it is important to understand both character’s initial views of forgiveness. Casiopea, while angry at her cousin Martίn for how he treats her, does not find happiness in the idea of hurting him. When Hun-Kamé says, “Come, girl, if you could have your revenge on him, you would” (177), Casiopea refutes that idea. She replies, “I don’t need to cause Martίn pain to be happy” (177).
