Summary
The narrator explains the nine levels of Xibalba that exist alongside the World tree and represents a duality between gods and mortals. There are ten gods there with five sets of twins that compliment each other’s powers. Vucub-Kamé overthrew his brother because he is bitter and selfish, even though the two ruled together. After sending an owl to check on his brother’s bones, he visits Cirilo and finds it empty. He is unsurprised, as this was their fate. Cirilio tells him about Casipoea and says Martín can find her. Vucub-Kamé gives him a jade ring that will summon Vucub-Kamé and tells him to find Casiopea. He will reward Martín for his success, but also punish him if he fails. Vucub-Kamé retrieves his axe capable of killing a god and plans to imprison his brother for good.
