Summary
In Chapter 8, while riding with John, Ijeoma tried memorizing his paths so she could return home when possible. When John took her, she had looked around for her family, unable to believe that Nnenna was not coming for her.
When they arrived in Amalike, John was kind to Ijeoma, explaining why she could not cry in front of Pastor Nwosu. John tried telling her about the church, the compound, and Christianity, but Ijeoma did not understand English.
While waiting for Nwosu, Ijeoma prayed. Nwosu asked Ijeoma questions, but she could neither understand nor respond to him. Nwosu became irritated. After praying over her, he had John take her to the Manifestation Quarters. As John carried her, Ijeoma studied his face.
