Summary

Chapter 136: "Two Days Previously" starts as Gunter brings Lord John a note from John Doyle. It says one of Lord John's employees, Thomas Byrd, fell in love with a woman and stowed her away. Not wanting her to be jailed, Captain Doyle reached out to Lord John even though Byrd was not going to. He recalls that Byrd has lost two wives and may have left Europe in his grief and Lord John decides to help. When he reaches the docks, he cannot find proof of Byrd and is knocked out.
