Summary

Part Three: "The Bee Sting of Etiquette and the Snakebite of Moral Order" opens with Chapter 31: "Pater Familias." William arrives in Savannah, Georgia and is sent to a home in St. James Square where he meets Archibald Campbell. He calls William a coward, but William tells Cinnamon that Campbell was responsible for Jane's death. They continue on and find Lord John caring for William's second cousin. A woman named Amaranthus takes the baby and Campbell subtly tells William that they are letting her think Benjamin is undoubtedly dead. Cinnamon thanks Lord John for giving him a place to say. As Cinnamon breaks down, William reveals that Cinnamon is Lord John's son and leaves.
