Summary

Chapter 10 finds Zoe back in the Community being questioned by Chancellor Bright, the new head of the Academy. For the past three weeks, she has continued to maintain that she recalls nothing about her time on the Surface, but suddenly she begins to glitch for the first time. She has seen the green-eyed boy again but has no other memory of him and assumes he is a Monitor. At home, she worries about her brother Markan, who is maturing, and wonders if he will begin to glitch. If he does not, she worries that he will be lost forever, with no emotion or feeling. She looks inside her mattress and thinks that her drawings are in a different place than where she placed them, but thinks she must be mistaken because if someone had found them, she would have been deactivated.
