Summary

Part III takes place in July 1966 and is told from the perspective of Miguelito Barrios. The section is written in the present tense and then shifts to the past tense at the beginning of Miguelito's recollections. Miguelito announces that someone returned to Glaxo the day beforehand, looking nothing like Kirk Douglas, and since then Miguelito has been able to clearly envision his own death.

For several years, after seeing a movie at a theater called the Savoy, Miguelito has had a habit of imagining the potential deaths of strangers, but he feels like he can’t share these obsessive thoughts with others because they would think he was crazy. He thinks if he told anyone about these thoughts they would assume it was happening because of the accident with a horse that killed his father.
