Summary

From a small apartment in Boston, a woman named Flip Brightman logs onto a video chat with her sister, Tabitha, to chat with their mother, Cecily. Felix and Kent join the call as well. Tabitha notices that Flip’s icon displays her given name, “Novak,” and warns Flip to change it before Cecily logs on so as not to upset her. When Flip cannot figure out how to change it, she chooses instead to leave the call and not log back on.

Flip starts a job at a company called Solid Memories which creates small animal figurines out of the ashes of people’s dead pets. Flip’s boss, Martin, introduces her to the company glassblower, Denise, as “Novak.” Later that day, Flip spots an open chat box between Martin and Denise wherein mentions in the chat that “Novak” is a famous glassblowing name in...
