Summary
In Then, Kit remembers Senior Honors Night when she and Diane were named salutatorian and valedictorian, respectively. Afterward, Kit’s mother told her that she did not know until that night how it was for Kit. She told her daughter to take whatever chances she had to in order to take care of herself.
In Now, Eleanor tells Kit that she is not going anywhere until she finds Alex. Kit is surprised when she learns that Eleanor works in a lab studying theoretical physics. Meanwhile, rumors fly about what might have happened to Alex. During a conversation with Kit, Diane tries to explain how it feels to have never be punished for what she did to her father. Diane asks if Alex was the only one Kit ever told about the murder. Kit claims he is.
