Doom

Doom is a violent shooting video game. This particular video game was a game that Gary and Brendan played a lot. Ryan Clancy says when the boys played the video game, it was as if they were in a trance and you could not talk to them or draw their attention away from the game. Some of the students and adults in the novel blame violent games such as this for contributing to violent behavior, including school shootings.

Guns

Brendan exhibited an obsession with guns. He even bought his first gun from a boy at school. Brendan enjoyed attending gun shows, handling guns and learning information about guns.
