Brendan's Suicide Note and The End Summary

Brendan writes his suicide note to the people of Middletown. He even hopes they print in the newspaper the reason for the shooting is they tormented him and made his life miserable. Gary telling Brendan that they need to talk foreshadows that Gary does not want to carry out their plan. It may be that Allison being in the gym has created his change of heart, or it may simply be that Gary is more sensitive than Brendan, and Gary is having a realization that what they are doing is just not right. Gary tells Brendan that he is still with Brenda all the way, but they have to figure out a way to get Allison out of the gym. Everyone then hears a drilling sound and when the boys flash their flashlights...
