Chapter 22 Summary

One morning, Christina is in the bathroom for an unusually long time. When Christina comes out, Carmen notices that she is white and looks terrible. Christina tells Carmen that she thinks her water may have broken, and she calls her midwife, who tells her to come to the hospital immediately. Since the baby is not due for another month, both are worried about the situation. When Christina is settled in the hospital, Carmen calls David, but she is only able to leave a message. She decides that she needs help, since she can't take care of her mother and look for David, and her mother refuses to have the baby until David is with her. Carmen calls Tibby, who says that she will come to the hospital immediately.

Sitting with Christina, Tibby feels the effect of being up all night climbing the tree...
