Chapter 6 Summary
When Lena and her mother Ari arrive at their home, Carmen is waiting for Lena. Lena and her mother are hot from their shifts at work, but Carmen notes that at least they have jobs. Carmen has none, but she says she applied for a job at eight dollars per hour taking care of an older lady who is partially blind. More to help her out than anything, Ari offers Carmen eight and a half dollars an hour to watch Valia, who is her mother and Lena's grandmother.
Lena takes Carmen to her bedroom and slams the door. She is very upset that Carmen would take a job watching her grandmother. She explains that she got a job some time ago partially so she wouldn't have to spend time around her grandmother, who she describes as "a nightmare!" Carmen thinks maybe she can...
