Point of View

Girl, Woman, Other is written from the point of view of twelve different characters. Every character is a black or mixed-race woman who is given one section from which her point of view is told. The fifth chapter is told from multiple perspectives, including the points of view of some of the women from earlier in the book. Chapter Five also includes the point of view of a male character, Amma's friend and Yazz's father, Roland. The epilogue is told from her perspective of Penelope, who has a section of her own earlier in the book in Chapter Three. The book is written in third person limited omniscient. A specific character's section is devoted exclusively to the perspective of that character which is why, though the book changes perspectives several times, the writing remains limited omniscient within each section.
