Cuts and Scars
Charlie’s cuts and scars are symbols of her pain and her shame. Charlie cuts herself to relieve her emotional pain. She admits that she does not know how to deal with life in any other way. After she has cut herself, Charlie is embarrassed by the scars that are left behind. She worries that these scars will keep her from being able to get a job.
