Charlotte “Charlie” Davis
Charlotte “Charlie” Davis is the main character and narrator of this novel. She is a girl who has experienced the worst that life has to offer before even her 18th birthday. Charlie cuts herself to deal with a life that she does not understand and emotions that overwhelm her. The reader sees her develop from the girl wrapped in a sheet lying outside the hospital hoping that she will die to a girl who has faced her demons and is learning to live her life.
Charlie gets her first good break in life when Mikey buys her a ticket to Tucson so that she can get a fresh start. Charlie does find a job and also finds herself a place to live-- though she is not able to afford a place in a good neighborhood because she earns so little.
