Summary
In Chapter 11, Harriet and Margot leave Ari's but move into a home nearby. Though they have little means, they make their apartment as comfortable as possible. Margot works three jobs to make ends meet and Harriet begins school. After some time, Ambrose offers Harriet a job but she does not want to work for his family's corrupt company. Ambrose explains they are not hitmen; they "manage dynastic wealth," assuming control of others' assets to guarantee them increased wealth (170). Harriet and Margot, however, swear off accepting anymore Kercheval help.
Instead, Margot begins a job as "an architect of the emotion of living spaces," designing homes that make their dwellers happy (174). Her business struggles, however, and Margot ends up opening an antique shop, where Harriet occasionally works. One day, Gabriel comes in to see her. The two talk and get along.
