Summary
The next chapter is titled “Through Blood, Through Fire” in 2012. This time, the authors do not identify the physical setting. Roland Herondale's beginning is briefly examined before the story shifts to Jem and Tessa, who are at one of Magnus Bane's estates in France. They want to find Rosemary but do not know how to go about it. Jem later looks back and remembers the smell of lavender on Tessa's hair. Tessa thought about the taste of fresh honey. Both forgot about the fact that they were lazily bickering. Their conversation is interrupted by the appearance of a magical heron and they immediately know Rosemary has used the charm Jem gave her while he was still Brother Zachariah.
