Summary

The next story is titled “Son of the Dawn” and takes place in New York City in 2000 with Brother Zachariah walking through the Shadow Market of that city. One faerie continues to offer him love potions and he realizes that the love he once felt is little more than a memory. He has a vague recollection of this faerie, whose booth is on chicken feet. He once loved the Shadow Markets but now lingers “because he remembered enjoying Markets once” (283). The voices of the other Silent Brothers, almost always present in his mind, urge him home. As he is leaving the Market, he encounters two vampires who need his help. They introduce themselves as Raphael Santiago and Lily Chen.
