Summary

The next story in the novel is titled “The Wicked Ones.” Celine Montclaire is in Paris in 1989. She is enamored with Paris and considers it beautiful. She is with two other Shadowhunters, Stephen Herondale and Robert Lightwood. Stephen is “Valentine Morgenstern's most trusted lieutenant in the Circle – the elite group of young Shadowhunters sword to reform the Clave and return it to its pure and ancient glory” (213). Celine is in awe of Valentine and in love with Stephen. She is leading the way to the Paris Shadow Market. Stephen says the Circle will eliminate Shadow Markets once it takes control of the Clave. Celine's parents were brutal and demanding, and routinely subjected her to beatings and emotional torture.
