Summary
As Nina prepared for her second date with Max, in Chapter 4, she parsed through the moments from their last date; the angles of his face, the sweat on his t-shirt, and the way he garishly moved his hand before limply thinking better of the movement. They met at a park in London and walked up the hill together. Nina and Max discussed their experiences on Linx, the patterns they noticed in profiles, and the strangeness of dating in the twenty-first century. Nina felt like a “teenager again, but with self-esteem and a salary and no curfew” (76). When they slept together for the first time, Nina “search[ed] for the ghosts inside him”, the women he had loved, the person he had been in other relationships, the women who had touched him (77).
