Summary
In Chapter 29, Yvette is visiting Charley and Aubrey, and she compliments Aubrey on the story Aubrey and Levi wrote for the newspaper. Yvette and Charley are going to meet up with others from the carnival, though Aubrey declines the invitation to join them. For a moment, Yvette's perfume captures Aubrey's imagination, taking her to a day she and Yvetter were working the duck-shooting booth. She sees a man with dirty hands and a dazzling smile, but loses the image. Aubrey reveals to Charley that Owen is settling in Seattle, and that prompts Charley to urge Aubrey to carefully consider whether the relationship is worth saving.
