Summary

Jerome has not seen Carlos since school ended and he told Grandma about what he did with the toy gun. Jerome appears in his room and sees him having a nightmare. He has a photo of Jerome on his nightstand that he looks at every day. Carlos tells his father about what happened to Jerome and how it was his fault. He knows he needs to tell Jerome’s Grandma that his death was his fault. Carlos also tells his father that he wants to honor Jerome on the Day of the Dead.

In Chapter 27, Carlos goes to Jerome’s family’s apartment to talk to Grandma. Carlos tells Grandma that he gave Jerome the gun, and she hugs him. She tells the children that she does not blame them at all, and they can only do their best to make things right...
