Summary
In “George’s Road to Fame,” George comforts an upset dental patient with advice inspired by the philosophies he learned in an undergraduate course in Buddhism. She was so impressed by his caring and astute attention that she writes an article about him in the newspaper, and soon George becomes famous as a philosophizing dentist, receiving fan mail and invitations for public speaking engagements and TV segments. In “More About Estonia,” Lizzie joins George as he speaks at an annual dentistry meeting in Estonia. In “George’s Secret,” George encourages Lizzie to let go of her suffering an to learn to use her despair “skillfully” to learn to be happy (241). In “What Does Lizzie Do All Day?” the author answers the reader’s curiosity regarding Lizzie’s post-graduate employment, since what she has been doing since graduation has until now been left ambiguous...
