Summary
In “George and Lizzie’s First Date,” the two protagonists go for lunch and start to get to know each other. The novels speeds up quickly, and in “George Calls His Mother,” George tells his mother over the phone in October that they have been dating since January. The narrative detours quickly back to the Great Game in “The Running Back.” In “The First Thanksgiving (with George),” Lizzie brings George to her parents’ horribly awkward Thanksgiving potluck. Mendel barely says hello and Lydia stays in her office the whole party. In “An Invitation,” George invites Lizzie to go home with him to Tulsa for Christmas to meet his parents. Lizzie is hesitant, still longing for Jack, but Marla convinces her to go, and helps her choose Christmas presents for his family.
