Pages 134-162 Summary and Analysis
Thompson attends the tenth annual Erotic Film Awards in Hollywood in "A Clean, Ill-Lighted Place". Thompson writes that the pornographic theater business is in decline, and the fact is reflected in the quality of films being produced in recent years compared to the 1970s. Later, Thompson attends the showing of a pornographic movie at a drive-in outside of San Francisco and finds that the ticket man considers the films to be art.
Thompson flies out of San Francisco to Denver on the Fourth of July in "Slow Day at the Airport". The plane is almost empty and Thompson is approached by an off-duty pilot, whom Thompson eventually recognizes as a drug smuggler he knows.
