Pages 40-71 Summary and Analysis
"Bad Nerves in Fat City" is an extended complaint by Thompson about being hounded by other members of the press while trying to meet a deadline. CBS News attempts to interview Thompson but he sends them away, and when Dan Hinkle attempts to interview Thompson, the interview is disrupted by an angry woman pounding on the hotel room door.
Thompson begins "Full-time Scrambling" by describing television as a terrible and evil yet inescapable business. Because Thompson is supposedly a television critic, he installs a large satellite dish at his Woody Creek, Colorado home. Thompson's friend Cromwell tells Thompson that he will have to buy a descrambler to watch most channels.
In "The Worst People in the World," Thompson claims to be applying for the "journalist-in-space program". Thompson hopes that if he is not selected, the Examiner will send him...
