Summary

Kobabe recalls eir first trip to the gynecologist for a pap smear in eir early 20s. E felt uncomfortable removing eir clothes, and describes the experience of the doctor inserting the speculum as “the most excruciating pain of my life” (127). Kobabe includes frank drawings of eir nude body in this scene, and draws eir facial expressions as anxious and sad. On pages 128 and 129, Kobabe draws emself nude, being pierced through eir body with a pin. E explains that e felt “a wave of psychological horror at the realization that things can go inside my body” (128). After leaving the doctor's office, Kobabe wept in the car, vowing that nothing would ever enter eir body again.
