Summary
Part 7 includes the chapters “Between the Boat and the Dock,” “Stories I tell Myself and Others (Gender as Narrative),” “Danger," and “Gender Retirement”. “Between the Boat and the Dock” is told from Ivan’s perspective and the picture before the chapter starts is a picture of Rae and Ivan sitting on stage looking at each other. The chapter begins with two stories Ivan tells about a performance in Seattle. One woman comes up to them after the show and thanks them for being proud to be a butch woman, like her. Ivan explains to the reader that they straddle a boat that is their trans identity, and the dock that is their butch identity. Next a transman comes up to them and thanks them for being a transman who understands feminism. Ivan thanks both of them...
