Section 5: The King of Pelinesse Summary
While reading about Caelwin, the Skull-Reaver, Jim Hucker takes a bus to Boothbay Harbor without telling his parents where he is going. He recalls how his mother dumped all of his books in the garbage, insisting they are trash. When he arrives in Boothbay Harbor, he calls Mom to tell her where he is, hanging up when she realizes why he is there and calls him stupid. Jim walks to R. P. Flint's front door, and Flint invites him inside when he realizes Jim is a disciple of the Skull-Reaver. Jim tells Flint that he had an affair with his mother. Two months ago, Jim found a letter to his mother from Flint, but his mom refused to discuss it, and later, he found another letter from Flint, torn up and thrown in the trash...
