Part 3: Chapters 18-20 Summary

The Wages of Sin. Olivia rushes to the library and tells Malcolm what she has caught Christopher and Corinne doing. Christopher and Corinne come into the room and begin arguing their right to be in love. Malcolm warns them that their actions are sinful, that they are committing incest and any children they might have would be seeds of the devil. Corinne refuses to listen, insisting that people have married closer relatives in history and nothing bad came of it. Malcolm demands that Christopher and Corinne leave his home unless they are willing to end their relationship. The young couple walks out of the house, without taking any belongings at all.
