Maturity
Maturity is one of the major themes of this novel. Several of the main characters within the novel are children who grow into a young adulthood with a speed modern day teens could not imagine. The first of these is Daenerys Targaryen. Daenerys is an infant when the war that dethrones her family takes place. Ever since Daenerys has been moved around from place to place as her brother searches for a safe place for the two of them to take refuge before they can raise an army and regain what is rightfully theirs. Daenerys's brother, Viserys, is obsessed with the idea of regaining his rightful place on the throne of Westeros, punishing anyone he sees as standing in his path, including Daenerys.
