The Power of Literature
As Gabi studies and writes poetry in her senior English class she learns that poetry has the ability to connect generations, act as a form of therapy, and teach lessons. Gabi learns to use her own writing as therapy, a way to purge herself of bad emotions, especially after her father died. She connects not only with students in her English class through writing but also with poets from other parts of the country and different decades.
Even before Gabi began her poetry class, she had already been using writing as a form of therapy, but she learns through her class the power of poetry to heal. Gabi used writing as therapy by recording her feelings in her journal. In this journal, she also writes letters to her meth-addicted father telling him all of the things that she wishes she could tell him...
