Gabriela “Gabi” Hernandez
Gabriela “Gabi” Hernandez is the main character of this novel. She works as the narrator as she tells the story of her senior year in high school through her personal journal.
Gabi is a 17-year-old Mexican-American girl who deals with all of the typical challenges of a high school senior — like getting good grades, getting into her dream college, and having a boyfriend. Gabi also deals with some unusual circumstances. Her best friend, Cindy, gets pregnant even though they had promised one another when they did have sex they would use condoms. Gabi learns later that Cindy was raped. Gabi’s friend Sebastian is kicked out of his home when he tells his parents he is homosexual.
