Tamaya Dhilwaddi

Tamaya is a fifth-grade student at Woodridge Academy. She grows up with her parents in an apartment in Philadelphia. Her mother and father divorce when she is in first grade. In second grade, she moves to Heath Cliff and gets a scholarship for the private school after taking an assessment test that proved she was gifted.

Tamaya loves her school and enjoys spending time with her best friends: Monica, Hope, and Summer. She takes pride in having perfect attendance and in getting perfect grades. Her hates that her parents are divorced and that she has to spend summers and one weekend a month away from her life in Heath Cliff so that she can visit her father in Philadelphia.

When Tamaya returns from the summer for fifth grade, she is confused to see that her friends have changed in small ways, such as wanting to seem cool...
