Point of View

The novel is written from the main character Camila Hassan's first person point of view. Because the narrative traces Camila's journey towards self-discovery, writing the novel from her first person vantage point allows the author to access her most intimate thoughts and feelings. Indeed, Camila's narrative voice acts as a driving force behind the narrative conflicts and propulsion. Even when Camila is not able to verbally express her experience to others, the reader learns about her interiority through her narration.
