Camila
Camila is the first person narrator and main character of the novel. She is the daughter of Isabel, a seamstress, and Andrés, a retired soccer star. She has one older brother named Pablo. Because Isabel and Andrés have a tumultuous relationship, Camila relies on her brother for love and support. Camila does love her mother, but often feels affronted by Isabel's directives, warnings, and advice. She wishes she could confide in Isabel or go to her for help, but knows that her mother almost always sides with her father. Camila avoids going to her father for anything. He is a violent man who makes her home an anxiety-inducing space.
