Summary
Chapter Twenty-Six begins with Jeremy Logan trying to sleep the night of Randall Jessup's murder. He is not able to sleep and the horrible images keep replaying in his mind. In order to take his mind off of the horrible death, Jeremy decides to finish his monograph. At exactly eight in the morning, Jeremy finishes the monograph and to mark the event, he goes into town to buy a croissant. After leaving the pastry shop Jeremy drives to Jessup's house to pay his respects to Suzanne, Jessup's wife. But before he gets into his Jeep, Jeremy passes the Forest Ranger headquarters and encounters a ranger named Cornhill who recognizes him as Jessup's friend. The ranger tells him that Krenshaw plans to raid the Blakeney compound in the next two days in order to get some answers. Jeremy thanks the ranger and continues to...
