Summary

“Late Returns” began with John Davies recalling his parents’ double suicide. He received note a note from the both of them, detailing that they preferred not to slowly die in their only son’s care. When John went straight to New Hampshire upon receiving the news, he lost his truck-driving job. John acknowledged that his parents enjoyed their lives, fought for their beliefs, and especially loved the library and its Bookmobile.

John decided to clean out his parents’ home and sell it to pay off their debt. Rummaging under the bed, John found a copy of Another Marvelous Thing 20 years overdue.
