Everyday Life
One of the central themes of the memoir is that there is joy and happiness in the ‘little’ moments of everyday life, from cooking meals to completing chores. Ree explicitly states this theme at the beginning of the text, writing that “Frontier Follies is a silly celebration of the everyday moments of my life in rural America” (2). While Ree has had interesting life experiences that many will never experience, such as appearing on television, she doesn’t focus on these extraordinary aspects of her life in this memoir. Instead, she deliberately highlights quieter, more routine moments, such as conversations with her children or date nights with her husband. In doing so, Ree builds on the everyday, relatable content and focus of her successful blog and her cooking show itself.
