Summary
In Chapter 50, Mia told Hank about the car. He admitted he the theft was an inside job to get money from insurance. Mia called the police and was surprised Officer Phillips listened to her. Officers caught Mr. Lorenz trying to sell the car and arrested him. When Phillips came to thank Mia, she nudged him toward Hank’s room. Hank told Phillips that his suspicions had cost Hank his job. When the officer said he was sorry, Hank asked him to be better, to stop and think before he blindly accused a Black man.
Later, Mia’s parents told her they had come to America because of what had happened between Phillips and Hank. The experience showed that people were innocent until proven guilty. They told her about the Cultural Revolution in China where people were arrested for no reason. They left China...
