Summary
In the next chapter, Tembi flashes back to earlier in her marriage. The birth of Saro's niece prompts her to reflect on the gravity of what it means for him not to have his family in his life. Tembi decides that she and Saro are going to go to Sicily and she books plane tickets. Because they have been told not to come to Aliminusa, Tembi and Saro book themselves into a hotel nearby and let his family know that they will be there, waiting for them should they choose to visit, every day between 5-7 PM. Saro's sister Franca is desperate to visit and is attempting to broker peace but "family mores dictated that if his father refused to come," then the rest of the family would not come.
