Summary
Chapter 20 begins on Wednesday. Eva and Greta were supposed to meet for lunch, but Greta never arrived. When Eva entered von Essen’s office to ask where she was, the Captain informed her that no raids on churches or convents had revealed any Jews. He then asked if she knew how to contact Angelo at the Vatican, and she gave him Monsignor Luciano’s name. Over the phone and with Eva in the room, he asked Luciano to give Angelo the message that Eva had been detained for questioning. Angelo arrived and waited for the Captain in a holding room.
