Summary
In Chapter 4, Camillo decided to take the family to their usual summer vacation home despite the restrictions placed on Jews going to luxury places. One day at the seaside, Angelo and Eva were caught in a rainstorm on the beach and were forced to take shelter in an abandoned fisherman’s shack. Inside, they play-fought and shared a passionate kiss together. Once back at the villa, they separated both reeling with joy from the experience. Camillo joined Angelo on the veranda, and revealed that he knew Angelo and Eva loved each other. Camillo told Angelo that he had been funneling his money into an organization called DELASEM, dedicated to helping Jewish refugees, and that the Catholic Church supported it.
